| Omar's claim of transparency explodes | | `Akbar Lone threatens officers' | | Majid Ahmad SRINAGAR, July 29: At a time when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claims that his government believes in transparency and substantiates it by passing instructions to his cabinet colleagues to solve the problems of people, one of the senior ministers in Omar's cabinet is threatening officers, using abusive language and forcing them to do his 'unjustified works.' Sources told Early Times Plus that Minister for Higher Education and MLA Sonawari Mohammad Akbar Lone is browbeating officers especially those who are posted in Bandipora district. "Most of the district officers who are transferred to Bandipora district are reluctant to go there as they fear Lone who at times uses foul and abusive language against them if they don't obey his orders," they said. "Lone has terrorised the officers in his district and often forces them to do works which are beyond their competence. He uses foul language against the senior officers and forces them to obey his orders," they alleged. "He always demands out of way help for people of his native village Naidkhai at the cost of people from other areas." It isn't only in his native district where he has terrorised the officers but last year when he was Speaker of the Assembly he had vide Assembly Secretariat letter NO: LA-9008/Legn/2012 dated 25-09-2012 asked the Vice Chancellor Kashmir University not to assign any administrative responsibilities to Prof Mushatq Ahmad Kaw, Dean Colleges, Development Council, KU. "The privilege motion had been moved against Prof Kaw by Lone after the former refused to obey the orders of latter. The matter was related to B.Ed college owned by a close relative of Lone who wanted some out of way favour. However, Prof Kaw had refused to oblige Lone who misused his official position to settle scores with a respectable professor of the University," sources alleged. On June 18, this year Lone had allegedly used, used "unparliamentarily" language to cow down opposition Peoples Democratic Party Chief Spokesperson and MLC Nayeem Akhtar during Bandipora Board meeting. Reportedly officers and politicians present in the meeting were shocked and mortified when Lone hurled choicest abuses at Akthar and his late father, who is being held in high esteem in the area. Pertinently, Lone, during his tenure as Speaker of the Assembly more than two years ago had abused PDP MLA Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari who had raised some issue in the House. A senior officer while commenting on the behaviour of Lone said, "It seems Omar Abdullah and NC leadership has given free hand to Lone to terrorise the officers and leaders of opposition parties. What Lone is doing has no place in civilised world. He has become a nuisance for all and he always crossed limits." "Recently a senior engineer was abused and terrorised by Lone after he had refused to give some contract out of way to his close associate. This has become a routine now," he said. "Is this (abusive language) what the government wants to preach to the students?" "The government should have sacked Lone as a Speaker when he used abusive language against Ansari in the Assembly. But this government has been making it sure from day one to terrorize not only common people but even senior officers and politicians also," he claimed. |
