| 2 dead, 7 injured in 'Kangra Fort' roof collapse | | Land under construction disputed | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, July 29: Two people died and seven other received critical injuries when an under construction building of banquet hall running in the name and style of Kangra Fort caved in here at Barnai today. The incident took place when the construction work of the new block of banquet hall was in progress. Police said that they immediately launched rescue operation with the help of locals and shifted injured to the GMC, while the debris was being removed to ensure that no one else was trapped underneath. While the treatment of the injured was on in the GMC hospital, one of them succumbed to injuries. The deceased has been identified as Major, a mason by profession, of village Thathi, Akhnoor. Later, during rescue operation police recovered dead body of another labour from the debris. His identification was yet to be established. A senior police officer when contacted said that an open case u/s 337 RPC has been registered by the Domana Police station, and investigation on the part of police is in progress. He further said that construction material has also been seized and being sent to the FSL to check its quality, adding, those found responsible for the incident will be booked in accordance with the law. Pertinently, the construction work was being done by the contractor Billu Shah of Akhnoor. Further, the piece of land where construction was being done was disputed as one Gaytri Singh Jamwal lodged complaint with the DC office Jammu claiming the piece of land. The similar complaint is also pending with Chief Minister's Grievance Cell. Worthwhile to mention here that the land measuring 4 kanal where the banquets hall has been built is at present in possession of one Kamaal Nain of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. |
