| Unnerved by Congress' cold shoulder, PDP's re emerging proximity ……? | | NC leaders 'put on hold' Congress bashing spree | | ET Report JAMMU, July 29: Ruling National Conference finally appears to have come to terms with the fact that Congress is not an party which can be taken for granted or a ride for its own ambitions of staying in power and letting it play a second fiddle , no matter it is a major ally . The tone and tenor of harsh political language and bashing spree which NC's senior most leaders like Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Mehboob Beg, Ali Mohammad Sagar or even by the Chief Minister himself that continued against Congress and Centre in general until recently has suddenly come to halt. And there is well explained reason for this changed strategy. Sources said NC high Command has given directions afresh to its ever vocal and loud speaking leaders to stop their anti Congress utterings in public . They have been asked to give guarded response to issues wherever Congress position is concerned or in which Congress has a stake. Sources said Dr Mustafa Kamaal who is often seen speaking harshly against Congress has in particular been given this direction to stop it at least for now. Sources said as Congress has not showed any positive or prompt response to the proposition and possibility of two allies going it together in the polls, this has made NC a worried lot. Even though Congress at any level has not completely ruled out the possibility, but the silence of high command high command over this issue has sent NC high command into a state of tizzy. NC high command is particularly perturbed over what it sees as 'growing proximity' of its rival PDP with certain quarters in Congress who matter in deciding the ultimate power propositions in New Delhi, sources said. It is this feeling and fear which has unnerved the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too which is why he made the statement the other day that PDP leadership was making desperate attempts to regain power through powerful lobbies, sources added. Whether this fear is for real or unfounded is a secondary question but this war of nerves between the two rivals has made Congress once again a pricy and most sought after party in the political echelons. Sources said having realized its shaky position at the ground level, ruling NC is not only desperate to contest elections together with the Congress, to which latter has not given a final nod yet, but also expressed it in quarters that matter that it was willing to let Congress be in the ruling seat in next government even if it (NC) had secured good number of seats. The strategy to keep Congress in good humour, sources said , NC high command knows would keep their party in a better equilibrium both before polls as well as in the post poll scenario. The change in strategy is also aimed at keeping its rival PDP at distance from Congress, sources said. |
