Jammu, Aug 5 : Members of Jat community today staged a sit-in outside Press Club under the banner of All J&K Jat Mahasabha to press the government for grant of OBC status to the community in Jammu and Kashmir. The protest was led by Choudhary Pyara Singh, president All J&K Jat Mahasabha. While speaking on the occasion, various speakers from the community, lashed upon the present coalition government and previous regimes for ignoring the genuine demand of the community. They said that despite various representations and requests to previous as well as present NC led coalition governments, none bothered to consider the demand of the community and threatened to lodge stir to ensure that the community may get their due rights as well as share in all spheres of life. They urged upon the present coalition government to consider their genuine demand and grant OBC status to Jats living in Jammu and Kashmir for the better upliftment of its members. Prominent among the others who were present on the occasion included Jagar Singh, Krishan Lal, Vikram Randhawa, Sham Lal, Raj Pal, Baldev Singh, Chunni Lal and Narinder Singh Chehal. |
