Congress seeks to tackle Kamaal in a wrong way
Ill-motivated attack on Soz

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 5: It is clear that the August 2 NC additional general secretary and CM Omar Abdullah's uncle uncouth Mustafa Kamaal's attack on JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz has stung the Congress leadership. That day, Kamaal had termed the JKPCC chief as a "political turncoat" and accused him of stabbing the NC on the back at regular intervals. He had also said that "the Congress is not a party but a department in Jammu and Kashmir which is run and maintained by New Delhi and that the "Congress leaders in the state are being paid on a monthly basis by New Delhi and lions share goes into Soz's pockets for his Chanakiyan policies". What Kamaal said that day could be described as a scathing attack on the Congress and the JKPCC chief with whose support the minority and ungrateful NC has been enjoying loaves and fishes of office and ruling the state roughshod since January 2009.
Ever since that day, local Congress leaders, especially from Jammu, have been condemning Mustafa Kamaal and urging party president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah to rein in the "misguided missile" in the best interest of the coalition, but with no result. On August 3, some members of the Jammu District Urban Congress Committee attacked Kamaal and demanded an apology, but nothing came out of it. On the contrary, Kamaal again attacked the Congress.
The same day, a number of senior Congress leaders, including senior vice president and former MP Dharam Pal Sharma, vice presidents Hari Singh, Gurmukh Singh and Prem Sagar Aziz, Mula Ram, former Minister, Janak Raj Gupta, former MP and deputy speaker and general secretaries Ravinder Sharma, Vinod Sharma, Hans Raj Bhagat and Kanta Bhan and so on reportedly met and discussed the situation arising out of the Kamaal's attack on the party chief and devise some "strategy to counter Kamaal". They urged the Congress Ministers to take up the issue with the NC working president so that he reined in Kamaal. Sources close to them also revealed that they could "boycott of all official functions as a mark of protest" and that it was decided "not to tolerate attack on the Congress and the Congress anymore".
The methodology the Congress leadership adopted will not yield the desired results. For, it decided to follow a policy towards the NC it has been following since January 2009. If the Congress leadership feels that Kamaal had been attacking the party and the party chief on his own, then it can be said without any hesitation that it is living in a world of the past and indulging in an exercise of self-deception. Kamaal enjoys the full backing of Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah and whatever he had been saying had the approval of his elder brother and nephew. Had that not been the case, they would have asked Kamaal to keep his mouth shut failing which he would be thrown out of the party. The very fact that they have not dissociated them from the statements of Kamaal and that he continues to hold a very important position in the party is a clear indication that they are working in complete unison.
