| Kamaal Theatrics: 'Damn care' attitude hurts Congress finally | | As Cong insists on apology, expulsion, NC chooses reticence | | ET Report JAMMU, Aug 5: The political spectrum of state's ruling clique for the last few days has once again been witnessing 'theatrics', this time Congress having changed a role a bit in terms of assertion in the 'dialogue' ridden statements with more senior leaders of the party scoffing at the utterances afresh made by none other than the great NC 'actor' Dr Mustafa Kamaal. Two days on after the Congress repeatedly sought apology from Kamaal, the entire NC hierarchy is silent, choosing a deliberate unspoken reaction, though the matter is a hot topic for political gossips among the cadres and even among senior leaders. Sources within the NC say the leadership as always is not taking Kamaal's uttering against Congress as something that may have repercussions on coalition. From Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to leaders down the line, no leader not even so called spokespersons have responded to the anger and resentment expressed by Congress against Kamaal's abusive language against Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and others. That Congress has actually taken exception to Kamaal's language and contempt for the party can be gauged from the fact that the leaders including senior functionaries of the party had to 'organize' a meeting to lash out and condemn Kamaal. However, what makes some sense in their reaction is the repeated assertion on seeking apology from Kamaal, which may never come as it is a game of politics for which the scripts are approved and written well before time and even vetted by the so called high command. While NC as a shrewd and clever ally in ruling chair feigns ignorance and continues to camouflage all this 'theatrics' by Kamaal, contending his anti Congress stances should not be taken as party's view …….that these are all his personal views …etc , Congress is genuinely so adamant, not surely expected to be naive of what high command including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah often says in his defense. The point one is prompted to make, rather Congress must remain rigid on is that if it is so, NC must oust him at least from the post of additional general secretary, as whatever Kamaal says as a politician can certainly not be taken as his individual views until NC disowns him or his stances, particularly against Prof Soz who happens to be president of the PCC. If Congress means what it poses or shows to be this time in expressing resentment over Kamaal's remarks, the posture should match with Cabinet Ministers as well who, sources say have already expressed that they won't attend the Cabinet meeting until NC responds to what Congress is asking for. IF they desist from this or forget by the time next meeting is organized, it would certainly be viewed that Congress is functioning like a 'department' which has control in New Delhi something which Kamaal has stated. |
