| Geelani commits another act of madness | | Regularising 20 colonies in Jammu | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Government last Wednesday reportedly ordered "immediate regularisation" of un-authorised colonies within the jurisdictions of Jammu and Srinagar Development Authorities. Congress Minister Raman Bhalla chaired by the meeting. According to one report, "The meeting opined that the residents of about two dozen unauthorised colonies in Jammu and Srinagar cities, who are mostly poor people, have remained without the benefits of several welfare schemes launched by the Central Government and it is high time to regularise these colonies to extend such benefits to the people". The report was based on a statement by an official spokesman. The report also said that the "officers were directed to clear all the bottlenecks and come up with the concrete proposal to get the formal nod of the Government". The reported decision of the Government on regularisation of 20 "unauthorised in Jammu", as was expected, stung mad Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The result was that he committed yet another act of madness on August 2. In his fit of madness, he, among other things, said: "Though National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, State Congress and others are taking silent dictation from New Delhi, Congress Minister (for Housing) Raman Bhalla has been entrusted with a special task in this regard and he sometimes even bypasses the state administration to take decisions. The Government's move to regularise 20 unauthorised colonies in Jammu province is a sinister plan. The Government of India is working on a long-term plan to change the demography of the state and it wants to settle the non-state subjects so that Muslims are made a minority in the region. Not only millions of Muslims were brutally massacred but equal number was also forced to migrate to Pakistan. Now the non-state subjects are being allowed to permanently settle there…They, for the lust of power, instead of showing any resistance extend their full support to Delhi. From Sheikh Abdullah to Raman Bhalla, all these politicians caused an irreparable damage to collective cause of Jammu and Kashmir…The Government's move to regularise 20 unauthorised colonies in Jammu housing non-state subjects as a 'sinister plan' to change the demography of the state. We are monitoring the situation and we will try to provide details to people and make aware them about its consequences". The issue is not whether or not the Government should regularise the unauthorised colonies. Regularisation of unauthorised colonies is a normal process which has been going not only in the state but also in the rest of the country since decades. One may or may not like it, but this process will go on unabated. The issue is what mad Geelani said. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and every Indian has the right to work and settle in Jammu and Kashmir as every person from the state has the right to work, study and settle in any part of the country. Even otherwise, the liberal-minded people of Jammu province are accommodating the victims of fanaticism since 1947 without any murmur. In fact, the people of Jammu province have always accepted the victims of fanaticism with open hands and cheerfully considering them part and parcel of the Indian society. Jammu is Indian and also who come to Jammu from other parts of the country are also Indians. Geelani must hold himself aloof from Jammu politics. The people of Jammu province know what is in their best interest. |
