| Hold judicial probe into 'custodial' death in PS Ramnagar, demands Harsh | | | Early times report
Jammu, Aug 5 : National Panthers Party (NPP) Chairman and MLA Harsh Dev Singh has sought a judicial enquiry into the alleged custodial death of one Subash Chander who died in mysterious circumstances in Ramnagar Police Station on Monday. Alleging foul play, he said in a statement that there was lot of resentment in the town and immense public anger against the police "which had been committing atrocities on innocent civilians for the last 1-2 years." He said that during the last two years people had been persistently protesting and demonstrating against police high handedness but of no avail. "People had made several complaints during the last six months against Ramnagar Police but all of them fell on deaf ears," he regretted that the present episode was the sad culmination of increased police 'atrocities and barbarism.' Urging for a high level probe, the NPP chairman said that nothing short of a judicial probe would satisfy the agitated people of the town. He urged upon the government to immediately announce ex-gratia for the family of the deceased. Harsh sought enquiry into all the FIRs registered in the Police Station Ramnagar during the last one year so as to verify their veracity in view of the persistent claims of the public that majority of them are frivolous. |
