| Govt pursuing relief package: Kichloo | | Kishtwar quake aftermath | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, Aug 5: Facing severe criticism over failure of the government to get relief for the quake victims, Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo today chaired the meeting of district officials here and assessed the situation. Arising in wake of August 2 and August 3, 2013 earthquake measuring 5.4 and 5.2 on Richter scale and causing wide spread destruction to government and public property. While addressing the meeting of District officers including Deputy Commissioner Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary, Tehsildar Kishtwar Inderjeet Singh and others, Kichloo directed the administration to constitute teams for exert assessment of losses to the public and government property. He also directed the administration to provide tents to the effected families with immediate effect on priority. He said that the top priority of the government is that no one among the effected families will left out without any help. While talking to the media persons on the sideline of the meeting, Kichloo said that government is making all its efforts to arrange the funds for the effected families. He said that the damages caused to the property is so high that the relief package announced by the state government is not sufficient to meet the demand. He said that state government has already submitted a proposal to central government for help and added that state government is hopeful that centre government will reconsider its decision and will provide a comprehensive package for the earthquake affected people of Doda and Kishtwar District. He said that State government is in constant touch with central government for relief package. Kichloo later also visited the Cherhar and other affected areas of Kishtwar District where massive destruction has caused due to fresh earthquake. Meanwhile reluctant District administration despite the lapse of more than three days fail to provide tentative details about the exert loss to the government and public property. Administration has also fail to provide any temporary relief to the effected people whose residential houses got damaged due to earthquake. People alleged that distribution of tents among the affected people was politically motivated and those people having affiliation with any political party are likely to get priority at the cost of the affected people. |
