UDHAMPUR, Aug 5: In its endeavor to increase green cover in Udhampur, the district administration launched a massive plantation drive, with slogan "Grow Green ', along the National Highway and Dhar road in the district here today. District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal formally launched the drive by planting a sapling of Gulmohar plant outside her Office Complex in the presence of a large number of school children and district officers. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the drive is an initiative in enhancing beauty of the local environment besides educating the people to protect the environment for sustenance of life. She said that the initiative would go a long way in providing green cover to the town besides maintaining eco-friendly atmosphere in the town. She, called upon the young students to come forward and share noble responsibility for the ecological balance which is a great concern for all of us. She urged them to plant maximum number of plants in their respective schools. Giving the detail of plantation drive, Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ajay Singh Jamwal, informed that ten thousand plants of different species of ornamental and shady plants are to be planted along road side of National Highway, Dhar Road, Government Educational institutions and offices of the district. Joint Director (P&S), Rakesh Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner Development, Pawan Parihar, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Bodh Raj, Chief Agriculture Officer, K.S Sambyal, Divisional Forest Officers Social Forestry and Territorial, district officers of various departments, citizens, volunteers of Civil Defence and large number of school students participated in the drive. |
