| Man killed in Police custody at Ramnagar, enquiry ordered | | | Et Report JAMMU, Aug 5: Residents of Ramnagar of district Udhampur today protested at Police station Ramnagar following death of a youth Subash Chander who died in the police custody last night. Family members of the deceased alleged that he was taken into custody by police 15 days back after the death of his wife by consuming poisonous substance. Hundreds of Protesters gathered at the police station, they were demanding the enquiry in the incident and action against the police officers involved in it. Anil Magotra, SSP Udhampur said, "The wife of Subash Chander died on July 22 by consuming poison, so he was called for the investigation, as he lives in a village which is far from the Police station he wanted to live there for night, but unfortunately he hanged himself at the retiring room of the police station, he was not in the lockup." "As the death was within the police station premises we want to make the case transparent, we requested the District Magistrate to conduct an enquiry, so a Local Tehsildar was appointed to conduct the enquiry," he added.SSP said that the body was recovered in the presence of the tehsildar, and then handed over to the family after postmortem. He said the investigating officer called him for investigation as per his convenience, but he was not arrested by the police. The protesters were later pacified by the SSP. |
