EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 10: Jat Sammelan was organized today in the honor of Choudhary Manmohan Singh, Former Mayor for being elected as President of All India Jat Mahasabha, Jammu and Kashmir at Nandpur. A large number of people from Jat Community participated in the function.
The Jat community was very appreciative of his becoming their representative, relating as Choudhary being one of among their own. Members of Jat Community said his efforts had been acknowledged ever since his political presence and after being elected as president, it won't be the first time now that they will seek his advice. "Choudhary Manmohan Singh is known for his dynamic and extrovert approach, when it comes to welfare, even though he is also a person to follow traditions at heart, and is a firm believer in maintaining the values and respect of our community" they said.
The Jat community residing in areas in 8 km proximity of border requested him to represent their demand of being given RBA status, to which Choudhary agreed to be already, one of his main concerns, others being the OBC status and transfer of ownership rights to refugees. According to him, most Jat families live in border area, and whenever there is disturbance in border area, they alone have to face the consequences of being disrupted from their routines, moreover on borders, the lands across the fence towards Pakistan, which has been covered and is being used by Indian army, they (jats) need to be compensated for that land in every crop season. It has been 50 years since Jats have been displaced from their lands, but no leader has ever been to see their grievances regarding the transfer of ownership of land titles, for which no funds need to be demanded of Govt., except for asking of one time settlement. Choudhary conversed that OBC has been given in many states as per their demands, so why not us jats when we have been demanding it for so long and has its need. Choudhary advocated that they must motivate and encourage the youth towards education so that utilize the OBC status in best possible ways, this educated youth will become a better face of our community, rather than those giving in to the old customs
and ill habits of drugs, alcohol and such. Since the beginning, Choudhary is seen very expectant of the youth and focuses on their overall development as a step to lead the community towards its development. His agenda was mutually accepted by all those presentthere.
