| Jammu Observes Complete strike, Bandh extended for 48 hours | | Curfew imposed in Jammu | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 10: A complete strike was observed in Jammu, on the call of Bhartya Janta Party (BJP) against communal clashes in Kishtwar on Friday. More than 20 people, including six police personals received injuries in violent clashes between protesters and police at several places. BJP has extended strike for next 48 hours. Members of all the political parties including social and business organization supporting call given by BJP for Jammu Bandh have protested at every nook and corner of the city. Some violent protest were also reported at Purani Mandi and City Chowk in which more than 20 people including six Police personnel received minor injuries. The Police and CRPF have lathi charged and hurled tear shells to disperse the protesters at Purani Mandi and City Chowk, when the protesters started stone pelting. SP City J S Johar, SHO City, Sunil Gupta, Inspector Jasrotia and three constables were reportedly injured in the clashes. According to police the SHO City Sunil Gupta have got his left leg fractured. Deputy Commissioner A K Sahu informed that Curfew has been imposed in the city latenight. Meanwhile, the protesters of different organizations as well as the residents of the different localities were on the roads to protest against the communal clash at Kishtwar. The BAR Association Jammu also boycott the working at Jammu High court and organized a rally in Jammu to protest against the incident. The protesters said, "It was total failure of the government administration, we appeal all the communities to maintain peace and brotherhood in the state." All the commercial vehicles were off the road and the shops were closed in the entire city till late this evening. The protestors burnt tyres on roads and blocked the roads including national highways for hours. The Inspector general of Police Rajesh Kumar in a statement said that all the shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was totally off the roads in Jammu city to protest against the incident Including Talab Khatika, Ustad Mohalla, Janipur, Narwal, Malik Market and Sidhara area. "There was no report of any untoward incident in Jammu region and the bandh in most of the districts was peaceful," IG added. Protestors were demanding the FIR against the people involved in the incident and the resignation of the MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo. There was strong resentment among the people against Divisional commissioner Santamanu for his statement that the curfew was imposed at 12 noon but it was imposed in the evening after 5pm. The Bandh was supported by all the Jammu based political with the support of Chamber of Commerce Jammu, Raghunath Bazar Trader Association, Traders Association, Tanker & Pump Association, Malhotra Mohalla Trader Association, Rashtriya Wadi Shiv Sena, Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj, Bus Stand Shopkeepers Association, Business Man Associaton Old hospital Road, All J&K Wrestling Association, Karyana Trader Association, Lakhdatta Bazaar Sarafa Traders along wwith other social and business organizations. Meanwhile, BJP has given call to extend the Jammu bandh by next 48 hours demanding sacking of J&K MoS Home Sajjad Kichloo. The party also demanded compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each to the family of those killed, full compensation for the loss of properties, suspension of DIG Doda Ranga and SP Doda, registration of FIRs against the minister and both police officials under Section 302. The decision to extent the bandh call by 48 hours was taken in a meeting held between the BJP leaders and heads of various Trade, Commerce, Transport, Bazars, religious and social organizations. The party was represented by its president Jugal Kishore Sharma and senior leaders Ashok Khajuria, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Kavinder Gupta and Rajesh Gupta. All the organizations have unanimously decided that the bandh may be further extended for another 48 hours. Meanwhile, in late hours incident, some protestors set police vehicles on fire. The vehicles were parked outside PCR Jammu. The protestors started stone pelting at New Plot, some protestors also gathered at Gujjar Nagar. They were dispersed by the police contingent. A complete and peaceful bandh was also observed in Kashmiri Migrant township Jagti today to protest against the communal violence in Kishtwar. All the shops remained closed and local transport was off the roads. On the occasion Jagti Tenement Committee president Shadi Lal Pandita while lambasting the coalition Govt said that the game plan of National Conference is to create communal violence in the state and to harass the minorities is the prime concern of this Government. He appealed people not to become the victim of this Govt's gameplan and maintain the communal harmony and brotherhood in the state. Meanwhile JTC president criticized the PHE authorities for not supplying water to Jagti camp for last couple of days. He urged the authorities to make necessary repairs in the supply pipeline immediately and restore the water supply to the Camp. |
