| Police casual in monitoring cyber cafes in Jammu | | | Early TImes Report
JAMMU, Aug 10: At a time when the security agencies are on high alert ahead of the Independence Day, leaving security measures 'null and void' the cyber stations in the Jammu city as police and other law enforcing agencies have failed to continue routine checking of internet cafes. Pertinently, after the high tech Delhi blast at High Court in 2011, the police had arrested three youths from Kishtwar and detected the use of cyber café in the mountainous town for sending the threat mail and thereafter the state government issued a set of guidelines for the functioning of the internet cafes including equipping themselves with CCTVs and special software's. Sources disclosed that most of the cyber stations in the city sans CCTV surveillance while others at large have non-functional CCTV cameras and unable to record the video footage since long. The directions once issued by the police to cyber station owners, to keep complete details of daily cyber visitors and to install high-tech security devices like CCTV cameras, instrumental to record the video footage, in case of any suspected activity, were not followed to the letter and spirit. But it all gone muted by the passage of time as police has failed to keep check on the cyber stations at regular intervals. As per guidelines by the securities agencies for cyber cafe owners, it has been made mandatory to get registered with police, installing CCTVs and providing video footage of CCTVs to the police on regular intervals. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu - Ajeet Kumar Sahu said it was the job entitled to the concerning police stations to keep check and get details of visitor at Cyber stations. "If any of the cyber station does not pursue those guidelines the license of the Cyber station would be repealed with immediate effect, he added. |
