| Power cuts haunt Jammuites on Eid | | | Mohammad Irfan
Jammu, Aug 10 : Several areas of Jammu region have plunged into darkness in the monsoon season giving people sleepless nights. Contrary to the tall claims of Power Development Department of providing uninterrupted power supply has proved hollow. People are shocked over the power cuts even on auspicious occasion Eid-ul-Fitr. Reports said that whole Janipur area reels under darkness since Saturday morning. A resident Khalid Hussain said, "The power cut on Eid is really shameful on part of PDD." Reports said that Lakkar mandi area and its adjoining areas Haiderpora are also without electricity since Shab-e-Qadar due to damaged transformer. People have expressed their resentment against the PDD as it has miserably failed in restoring uninterrupted power supply on festivals occasions also. The tall claims of PDD of uninterrupted power in metered areas too falls flat as 8-10 hours cuts. Sources said PDD fails to tighten noose of erring defaulters who are having illegal connections via Kundi system. According to reports there are 150000 connections through Kundi system in state and officials have failed to check it. Sources said in several areas of Jammu transformers installed not having required load capacity due to which fluctuations happens and electronic gadgets also get damaged. When contacted Chief Engineer PDD Shenaz Goni admitted that due to technical problem in grid station Janipur there was power cut. Asked why power cuts happen in metered areas, she said, "Some time due to technical snag it happens but usually the metered areas are provided uninterrupted supply."
