| Opposition blames 'coalition' for playing fiddle when Kishtwar was on fire | | | early times report Jammu, Aug 12: Senior leaders belonging to the BJP and the Panthers Party favour that the Government carry out a proper review of its policy on pulling out companies of paramilitary forces from within the state following the unfortunate events that rocked Kishtwar town in the absence of timely intervention by CRPF and Army personnel. Chairman Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh, said that instead of thinking about withdrawing paramilitary forces Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah should seek additional companies of the central forces because it may take time to settle the dust of communal divide. Appealing people to maintain calm and restore traditional brotherhood Harsh Dev said that it was time the Government reviewed the entire security system in the state in the light of JuD Chief Hafiz Saeed's threat of crippling Kashmir. He said that the Government should upgrade intelligence network and surveillance system in order to nab those who have been trying to incite communal passions. Harsh Dev wanted Omar Abdullah to bank on preventive measures because his curative measures were delayed leading to loss of life and property in Kishtwar and other areas in Jammu region. Humming similar tones Senior BJP leader Ashok Khajuria said that the proposed visit of Arun Jaitley, leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha to Kishtwar, which was scuttled by the state Government, was not aimed at exploiting the situation for electoral gains but for assessing the situation and for trying to restore cal and sanity in the town. He also suggested to Omar Abdullah to seek additional companies of central forces so that new security pickets were established in various sensitive areas in the Jammu region to foil any mischief by the subversive elements. The opposition leaders referred to the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad's statement in which he has claimed that he was instrumental in calling troops and sending additional companies of CRPF to Kishtwar and other disturbed towns in support of their claim that while Kishtwar was on fire the NC led Government was fiddling. They also suggested to chief minister to stop campaigning in favour of withdrawal of troops and the AFSPA. They said that the statement of Azad was clear in establishing Government's laxity. Azad expressed gratitude to PM Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for their intervention in making available Central Forces "at the nick of the time yesterday night when things had started drifting out of hands and tension had gripped other parts of the State." "It is worthwhile to mention that on the request of Azad, Prime Minister ordered deployment of Central Forces in the entire Jammu region and that mobilisation of troops was done in the shortest possible time with curfew imposed in all the major cities and towns late in the night.” |
