| As Jammu region continues to remain on edge, clueless Cong lacks 'action plan' | | Move to set up 'peace committee' draws flak | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 12: As Kishtwar and other districts of Jammu continue to reel under curfew and Chief Minister facing the political heat both at state and national level, his government's major ally Congress continues to remain clueless and a confused lot at the local level. Rather than supporting or endorsing the swift moves seen today as damage control measures by the Chief Minister, Congress looked a silent and perplexed lot , attending the meetings aimlessly , without knowing whether this would do any good to the party or repair the damages already done by the inaction of the the government for a considerable time. At a time when it should have adopted a pro active strategy to deal with the situation at the political level, Congress continues to behave like a meek and helpless partner, perhaps stunned by how BJP has hijacked the things much to their side over developments post Friday clashes. The manner Congress at the state level has responded to the crisis erupted out of communal clashes which spread swiftly to other places, Congress is conducting itself in way which leaves no one in doubt that it been reduced to a party of inefficient , incompetent and insensitive people who are unable to handle the crisis like situations which this coalition government has been confronting for last over five years. It lacks an instinct of responding impromptu and instead of taking right measures, it resorts to steps which look irrelevant in circumstances. Sources said party's move of setting up peace committee having four or five ministers from Jammu on board at a time when the situation is still under flames and things on edge , is drawing a flak even from within the party itself. Sources said the some party leaders have questioned the relevance nad rationality of making a peace committee especially when the PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and other leaders of the party had desired to visit affected areas in Kishtwar but were denied the permission by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, no matter as a part of strategy to prevent entry of opposition leaders from BJP and PDP.The step , which is learnt to be idea mooted by a couple of ministers is being seen as ridiculous move and termed by many as illogical which has once again bracketed Congress as party resorting to rhetoric alone. Congress once again behaved in a manner suggesting it terribly lacks its own action plan to deal with the crisis, which is evident from the fact it attended a couple of meetings today in which peace rhetoric was repeated including the one convened by CM which was attended by members from various parties. The visuals at least suggested the senior Congress ministers looked mute and helpless, as if they were made to attend the meeting as a matter of compulsion rather than participating voluntarily in it. In one of the meetings attended by senior ministers , the latter were seen preaching peace and giving sermons as if they were to give a lesson to a group of naive people. The insiders within the party say that the confusion compounded due to lack of coordination between state and Delhi leadership as to what course of action the local leadership should adopt when NC and Omar in particular is line of fire and the Centre subtly saving Omar on some scores. One wonders when would this new found peace committee would make a venture to places that have been engulfed by communal violence. |
