Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Aug 12: Curfew was defied and angry protestors clashed with police and Army in the trouble torn Kishtwar town when first arrest was made by police in the August 9 violence. The clashes left Six people including policemen injured. Four days after communal clashes rocked Kishtwar on Friday killing three persons and injuring over 60, Kishtwar police today made first arrest in the case. As per details, Kishtwar police arrested Sajan Kumar son of Girdari Lal resident of Hidyal Chowk Kishtwar for his alleged role in August 9 communal clashes. The police sources said that Sajan Kumar's name also figured in several other cases including communal clashes of 2008. The sources said that Friday's clashes were confined only to Dak Banglow chowk to Kuleed Chowk and added that the accused Sajan Kumar along with his associate barged into the hardware shop of Mansoor Ahmed Wani at Hidyal Chowk Kishtwar and burnt his shop. The sources said after this incident, the youths from Majority community went on rampage and burnt the shops and other business establishments. The family members and relatives along with residents of Hidyal Kishtwar held strong protest against the arrest of Sajan Kumar. The protestors also clashed with police and security personals at Hidyal chowk forcing police and army to use lathi charge, tear gas shelling and aerial firing to control the mob of over 1000 people. Additional SP Kishtwar Thakur Kulbir Singh, two police constables and nearly half dozen protestors were injured in the clashes. Police also detained separatist leader Molvi Abdul Qayoom Mattoo and his four other associates for their alleged role in appearance of posters of Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Maqbool Butt on walls of Kishtwar a day before the Eid violence Four other persons identified as Shabir ahmed Peer, Firdous Baghwan, Javeed Akhoon and Zakir Baghwan were also detain along with Mattoo in connection with appearance of posters. The sources informed that police registered six different FIR's in connection with Eid riots at police station Kishtwar and started hunt to arrest other accused. Meanwhile curfew continued in Kishtwar District on fourth consecutive day today as a result of which the common people faced lot of problems due to non availability of essential commodities. In another development, Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) President and MLA Langate Er. Rashid along with his party delegation despite heavy presence of security forces all along Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar National Highway manage to reach Chatroo area of Kishtwar District and met several local people there. While talking to the people at Chatroo, Er. Rashid termed the resignation of MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo as step to safe guard the vote bank. He is the first leader from opposition camp to reach Kishtwar.
