| Be aggressive but decent: Jaitley to BJP spokespersons | | | Jammu, Aug 18: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley has advised BJP spokespersons to be aggressive but maintain decency and decorum while countering the opposition during television debates and press interactions. He also advised them to avoid giving a TV byte or press reaction if they are not fully prepared or don't know the party line on the issue. Jaitley was addressing a national media workshop organized by the party for its spokespersons, media panellists and media cells. The workshop was moderated by BJP National Media Cell Incharge Shrikant Sharma and attended by the party's leading national spokespersons and authorized national TV panellists including Prakash Javadekar, Shahnawaz Hussain, Nirmala Sitharaman, Meenakshi Lekhi, Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi, Captain Abhimanyu, Vijay Sonkar Shastri, Balbir Punj, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Nalin Kohli and Pinky Anand. In his address, Jaitley expressed satisfaction at the manner in which the Bharatiya Janata Party spokespersons had tackled Congress charges against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after his Independence Day speech. He said Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had used derogatory words against Modi which should be countered strongly but decently. The BJP has also demanded that Azad should take back his words immediately and also tender an apology for his remarks. Jaitley said there is a need to take on the Congress in a more aggressive fashion. He asked the spokespersons to be better prepared to sound more convincing. He underlined the need for setting the agenda in the media and public debates and not follow the one set by the Congress. |
