| Defiant Congress ministers push PCC leadership to wall nDefy party directions, attend cabinet meeting | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 18: As if lobbyism in Congress was not enough to give sleepless nights to the leadership here and in New Delhi, that the Congress ministers chose to attend the cabinet meeting held Friday with Omar Abdullah in chair. The leadership had urged the ministers to boycott the cabinet meeting unless National Conference (NC) additional general secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamal tendered an unconditional apology for his `uncalled for tirade' against the Congress. The defiance of the ministers has been seen as a severe setback to the party which had been claiming to emerge as the single largest party in the forthcoming 2014 elections. The development has pushed Congress leadership to the wall. Now it has many problems to address. The NC has simply ignored the demand of making Kamaal seek an unconditional apology. The leadership will find it very difficult to pull out of the coalition at this juncture and taming the defiant ministers will be equally difficult. Although the chief spokesman of the party (Congress) has stated that it will not allow NC leaders to speak about Congress and its leadership but there is little he or his party can do about it. The leadership may have to eat a humble pie as it cannot risk annoying NC at this stage with the political experts predicting yet another coalition government after 2014 elections. Kamaal has been issuing statements against Congress and its leadership from the very beginning. He has not even spared senior leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. He launched a personal attack on PCC state Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz calling him a `political turncoat'. "he has stabbed NC in the back", Kamaal accused Soz. |
