EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 18: All men are equal but some are more equal than others. Even before law, it would seem. Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) authorities are allowing an influential under trial prisoner to enjoy VIP treatment at the hospital. If sources are to be believed, ex-SHO Gandhi Nagar Sultan Mirza, who is facing trial in the sensational Amandeep Murder case for allegedly fiddling with the weapon of offence, is recuperating in GMC&H for a month now after undergoing a surgery to remove Gall-bladder stone.
"Unlike other patients who get discharged for such surgeries within a day or two, the under trial Mirza is enjoying the luxuries at the hospital for exactly a month now as he got admitted on July 18," sources informed Early Times. "Mirza's stay was prolonged deliberately and he was not sent back to Kot Bhalwal jail after his surgery. It is not only that his stay was overstretched but he was kept in a room in Col Chopra Nursing Home against the laid down norms. But Mirza is no ordinary citizen. So, he was moved to an isolated room in Col. Chopra Nursing Home where a patient has to pay charges for occupancy. Normally under trial prisoners/convicts are sent for treatment to a Government hospital and not in a Nursing Home," sources added. Sources further said that even the doctors kept on lingering Mirza's surgery as his operation was delayed for at least twenty days just to give him an opportunity to evade the jail barracks. "The surgery was finally performed on August 7 but still Mirza is in the hospital and is now admitted in Ward No 7," sources said. Buck doesn't stop here as the hospital authorities did not even bother to provide any information to the Kot Bhalwal jail doctor about the treatment provided to Mirza."Dr Rajendra Thapa of Kot Bhalwal jail sought information regarding Mirza's treatment twice but was denied by the GMC&H authorities," sources said.
