| Questioning CM's Independence Day Address | | NC responsible for trifurcation demand, says BJP | | Neha
JAMMU, Aug 18: Disturbed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's controversial and provocative Independence Day Address, the state BJP on Friday launched a blistering attack on him and asserted that it is the NC which is responsible for the demand seeking trifurcation of the state. BJP National Executive Member and former State President, Shamsher Singh Manhas, who addressed press conference, said that "haranguing address by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Independence Day indicated his frustration and bereft of normal bearings due to his utter failure to curb the communal and extremists elements of NC in his Government". "By trivializing Kishtwar riots as minor occurrence, Omar Abdullah has betrayed his insensitivity and callousness", he said, and asked him to explain as to "how the flags of Pakistan and posters of Afzal Guru, Maqbool Bhat and Shabir Shah appeared in the town before and during the incident". He also took the opportunity to remind Omar Abdullah that "Ladakhi Buddhists' demand for separating their region has not been brought by the BJP" and that "the demand for separation by Ladakhi Buddhists and Jammu people is on account of gross discrimination, exploitation and over-lording by valley-centric rulers of the State". He charged him with indicting the BJP for the trifurcation demand for no reason and stated that the address of the Chief Minister was "divisive and not inclusive, as it should have been, since the occasion was the celebration of Independence Day and not a political rally". The BJP did make a very valid point by question the Chief Minister's address, which has been condemned by many in the state and in New Delhi, with sections of alert media also tearing into Omar Abdullah and accusing him of speaking the language of separatists. Likewise, the BJP only hit the nail on the head when its leadership said that the people of Jammu and Ladakh cannot be blamed for the trifurcation demand, as the demand has been forced down their throat by the NC by evolving and pursuing out-and-out Kashmir-centric and communal policies. Whatever the BJP said was quite logical. It would be better if the NC rebuts the BJP charges with facts and not by criticizing the BJP leadership. |
