| 7 Provide helping hand to flood victims: Gupta to govt | | | et report
Jammu, Aug 18: Former Union Minister and MLA Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has emphasized that the administrative machinery should be geared up at war -footing to provide helping hand to the people who are faced with a serious situation arising out of heavy rains and floods.
In a statement Prof Gupta pointed out that thousands of houses have been damaged, many lives have been lost, several bridges damaged, road connectivity has been has been disrupted, standing crops at thousands areas have been almost destroyed and the life in general has been put out of gear.
"But it appears that the official machinery was not prepared to visualize and take measures to meet the challenges of the rainy season, he alleged and stressed for taking note of the situation at the highest level," he said and stressed for immediate measures for sanitation measures, especially in slum areas to check the outbreak of diseases.
Impressing for early assessment of the losses and providing relief to the sufferers, Prof Gupta said that mere announcements and verbal assurances would not work as had been there in the past. In this regard, he pointed out that there was cloud burst in Ladakh and great devastation 'but even after three years the loud promises made by the central leadership have not been fulfilled so far. Hence, the going on of the past should not be repeated," he added. |
