| Vendors selling eatables near Sulabh Toilet posing health hazard | | | AJAY SHARMA
KATRA, Aug 18: Playing with the health of people, the vendors in Katra town are selling eatables in close proximity to Sulabh toilet complex thereby exposing the tall claims of Katra Municipal Committee (KMC) of maintaining hygiene of high standards in the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
Sources told Early Times that more than 10 reharies are selling eatables just in front of the Sulabh Toilet under unhygienic conditions and putting the health of people who are having food especially the pilgrims visiting Vaishnodevi shrine to risk.
Sulabh Toilet near these reharies emanates foul smell all the time polluting air and flies sitting on the food items make them unhygienic during these rainy seasons, they said further adding that even these vendors use water from Sulabh Toilet for preparing food posing threat to the health of consumers.
Due to total negligence of Katra Municipal Committee these reharies are forced to sell eatables under such unhygienic conditions has committee has failed to provide better place to these licensed reharies, sources claimed.
"It is the duty of Municipal Committee to provide us a better place to sell eatables but so far administration has identified alternative place for us as a result we have no other option but to continue from this place, we have responsibility our families," said Sanjay Kumar a tea stall own.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) CHC Katra, Gopal Sharma told this correspondent that there are 80% cases reported in the hospital due to food poisoning in these days. Rainy season has compounded the problems.
When contacted Executive Officer, Katra Municipal Committee, Ravi Kumar Sharma admitted that rehaires are functioning in unhygienic conditions and assured that rehairies will be shifted to some other place within few days. |
