| Jeevan Nagar residents protest against PDD, torches effigy of Raman Bhalla | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 18: The residents of Jeevan Nagar Mohalla this morning held strong demonstration against the failure of Power Development Department (PDD) and also burnt effigy of MLA Raman Bhalla for his failure to reach out to the people. The power supply to Jeevan Nagar area was snapped five days ago due to snag in the transformer. Besides, the lanes and drains of the entire locality are totally choked due to the choking of adjoining nallah for days altogether. Unable to bear the official apathy, the people took to streets and blocked the ever busy Kunjwani-Satwari road near Industrial Estate Digiana to highlight their plight. The agitating people raised slogans against local MLA Raman Bhalla, who also happens to be a Cabinet Minister. The road blockade continued for two hours. Later, SDPO Gandhi Nagar Uday Bhaskar Billa and other police officers reached the spot and pacified the people. The SDPO also called the Junior Engineer of PDD on the spot and assured people that power supply will be restored at the earliest. People were very critical of the local MLA Raman Bhalla, as he ignored the suffering of people despite being aware of the same.
The locals expressed that Bhalla being a Cabinet Minister could have asked PDD to restore the power supply and JMC to clear the choked nallah but, he deliberately ignored the cause of people. They also resolved to teach Bhalla a lesson in the forthcoming Assembly Elections. Meanwhile, people dispersed peacefully on the assurance of SDPO but insisted that their demands should get fulfilled at the earliest. Among those present included Ashok Gupta, Vinay Saini, Satpal Verma, Anil Saini, Suman Choudhary, Darshana Devi and others. |
