Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 30: In what can give a blow to the credence and functionality of the Apex Committee of the NC led coalition government set up for settling the issues confronted by the Kashmiri Pandits living in exile, prominent legal eagle and senior Congress Leader Ashok Bhan today resigned from the membership of the Committee . In a brazen allegation Bhan has stated that this government has rendered the purpose of the Committee futile as it doesn't have ideological commitment to solve the problems of the community.
Under severe criticism from the community members , the Apex panel has already lost its credibility for a number of reasons was constituted vide Govt.order no.Rev/MR116 of 2009 on 16 . 9.2009 .The committee was tasked to help the State government for implementation of 6000 employment package, protection of Temples & shrines by an appropriate Act of Legislature, return and rehabilitation policy formulation etc.,besides building confidence in the KP community for the safe and dignified return to Kashmir Valley besides other related issues. But none of these issues have been settled nor solved in real sense and in totality.
Taking a dig apparently against NC, the Congress leader has further said PDP- Congress government had set the agenda for dignified return with the required pace , emphasis and commitment . But this government has miserably failed in following it up as it is either incompetent or lacks will to do so, he added.
In justifying his decision to part ways with the Apex committee of which he was a member, Ashok Bhan lashed out the dispensation contending that the State government has failed the sufferings of KP community and is pursuing the policy and agenda of exclusion of this Aborigine Kashmiri community to appease the elements inimical to pluralistic society more particularly in the Valley. By the forced exodus of this religious minority Kashmir;s demographic profile is already shattered and no serious campaign/effort is in place to reverse the same. Restoration of plural socio- political ethos is the first task of any responsible government in which it has failed, he further said.
He said Kashmiri Pandits are most important component of the Kashmiri society, without their physical presence in Kashmir with all the dignity, security, employment, inclusion in politico-social dynamics, housing and all the facilities of right to life and decent living in the valley, the peace and political stability shall always elude the Valley .Kashmiri Pandits are longing to return back to their Homeland, the crucial issue on which NC led government is dithering deliberately, he alleged.
