| It's time to retrospect and review ties with NC | | Congress Convention | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 30: The JKPCC is all set to organize tomorrow convention of executive members of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) in the winter capital of the State, Jammu. AICC general secretary and in-charge of the J&K Congress Ambika Soni, JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and Union Health Minister and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are likely to attend the much-publicized convention. Sources within the JKPCC have revealed that a number of resolutions would be adopted during the convention. There are also indications that the convention would also focus on the nature of existing ties between the Congress and the National Conference (NC) and their impact on the Congress's poll prospects. If some credible sources are to be believed, then it can also be said that the role of the Congress Ministers would also be scrutinized to find "if the Ministers had functioned as Ministers for the entire state or as Ministers of their respective constituencies at the cost of the Congress". It is too well-known that the relations between the Congress and the NC are not normal. There are many reasons for this. One reason is that the NC leaders, especially additional general secretary of the party Mustafa Kamaal, has repeatedly condemned the Congress and New Delhi and held them responsible for all the so-called ills facing Kashmir. He has repeatedly ridiculed and abused the JKPCC president. Not only this. He has on several occasions lambasted the AICC president Rahul Gandhi and Congress leaders like ML Fotedar and Saif-ud-Din Soz. Regarding Rahul Gandhi, he had said that the AICC leader must not interfere in the internal affairs of the state. But more than that, Mustafa Kamaal has been airing views which do not suit the Congress leadership, particularly from Jammu, as it knows that the people of Jammu province are out-and-out Indians and against the divisive and communal policies of the NC. If the bulk of local Congress leadership and cadres is not appreciative of the NC and its policies and attitude towards the Congress and New Delhi, it is also not very happy with the style of functioning of the some Congress Ministers. It wanted the Congress Ministers to boycott the Cabinet meetings following the NC-sponsored blistering attack on the JKPCC chief, but it did not happen. The Congress Ministers attended all the Cabinet meeting much against the wishes of the local Congress leadership and party workers. It is almost certain that the above-mentioned issues would come under sharp focus during the convention. Indeed, it is time for the Congress to retrospect and review its ties with NC. Political pundits believe that "for the Congress, the NC is a liability" and that "some of the Congress Ministers have not helped their party expand its area of activities and influence, as they remained involved in the matters relating to their respective constituencies". |
