| BJP's silence over DIG Ashkoor Wani, people suspect truck with NC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 30: There seems to be some secret understanding or what can be termed as unholy' nexus between the National Conference and the BJP. This has been proved time and again-first during cross voting for the Legislative Council seats and recently for allegedly shielding the DIG Ashkoor Wani. Following communal clashes in Kishtwar on August 9, the minority community had demanded shifting of the DIG and other officers. BJP also joined the chorus and some officers were shifted. However, Ashkoor Wani was retained much to the dismay of the minority community. Shockingly, while BJP demanded shifting of other officials, it maintained a silence on Ashkoor Wani. Ask for the reason and sources would tell you that Wani is Kitchloo's point man and replacing him would mean annoying an already demoralized and disgusted NC ex-Home Minister Sajjad Kitchloo. They would further apprise you that Wani had been working overnight to put Kitchloo's plan of disbanding VDCs into effect. Minority community had been demanding his ouster months before the communal clashes in Kishtwar shocked entire state. They had been agitating against him but no one heard them. The violence in Kishtwar gave people an opportunity to seek his immediate ouster. But they were let down by political parties claiming to be fighting for their cause. BJP which had been leading from the front during the recent four day band in Jammu did make some noises but preferred to silence when the Bandh was called off. They did not even mince a few words about replacing Ashkoor Wani with some other officer, as was being demanded by the members of minority community. People have begun talking about BJP's tacit understanding with NC. They suspect that BJP is hand-in-glove with NC and hence, has preferred over the demand for replacement of Wani. They have not spoken a word while the minority in Kishtwar has been protesting against continuation of Ashkoor Wani as DIG Kishtwar. The BJP leader in Kishtwar Sunil Sharma has been demanding Wani's ouster. But support from Jammu is not forthcoming. The minority community has urged the BJP leaders to come clean on the issue. However, the leaders in Jammu continue to remain silent over the issue of Wani continuing to be DIG Kishtwar-Doda. The reason is being debated across the political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir. people have begun saying BJP is in league with NC over Kishtwar and hence, are silent over Ashkoor Wani. |
