SRINAGAR, Aug 31: People in South Kashmir's Pulwama district alleged that Government Girls Middle School (GGMS) Muran Building, which is being reconstructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), has developed cracks even before its completion. They alleged that sub-standard material is being used for constructing the building. Reports said that GGMS building located in Muran Pulwama was gutted two years ago. The government under SSA scheme sanctioned Rs 9 lakhs for its reconstruction. Locals alleged that the new building would be threat for the students as sub-standard material is being used in its construction. "We approached Chief Education Officer in this regard. However he showed no interest and shelved the matter. Even we approached other officials of education department who apart from lip service did nothing to probe the matter ," one of the local residents said . Educationist and ReT Chairman , Ghazi Abdul Aziz said that this new school building could prove fatal for the students and anytime in future any incident could occur. "There are ample chances for this building to get collapsed. We urge upon the authorities to look into the matter as building is still incomplete," he said. Another resident said that under SSA it is mandatory that the Village Education Committee (VEC) takes all the decision about construction of new school buildings. "But what we are noticing is totally different. Construction work is being allotted to contractors connected with politicians and officers of education department. The VEC is not consulted," he said. People warned that if authorities did not probe the matter, they would come on roads and dismantle the building. No official form Education Department was available for comment. |
