Avinash Azad JAMMU, Aug 31: The Board of School Education (BOSE) had changed language of Social Study in English and sought suggestions of concerning Chief Education Officers (CEOs) over change of language after more than one year. Sources informed Early Times that the BOSE had changed its syllabus of SST in English for academic year 2012-13 and sough suggestions from CEOs a year after the decision. "Rajouri, Reasi, Udhmapur, Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts fall under summer Zone of Jammu region where language of SST had changed, earlier students of these areas were studying their social study for ninth class in Hindi and Urdu", sources said, adding that instead of using regional language to make study easy for children especially who belong to rural areas, the BOSE imposed its dictate, underling ground realities. Terming BOSE's peal that the CEOs of those districts which fall under summer zone were asked to fill their reply if any over change of language an eye wash, the sources said that BOSE had changed language last year and asked the CEO's their recommendations in the month of July, following objections raised by some social activists. A deputation in the month of July had met Secretary, BOSE and sought intervention over decision of change of language, as it will affect the study of students of rural areas and would prove burden on them. "The delegation had requested to secretary BOSE to re-consider the decision, as another subject in English would prove burden on them. Following which secretary BOSE had assured the deputation, that necessary action will be taken, but no formal orders were issued to the CEOs regarding said matter", sources said, adding that it was a biased approach of board as the students of winter zone of Jammu region were studying the same subject in Hindi and Urdu languages. "If UPSC provides language option for candidates of various high profile services of country including IAS, IPS and others, then by BOSE is shying to promote Hindi, Urdu and regional languages", the sources said. They further said, "Majority of schools in rural areas, are running under-staffed and in the absence of competitive environment, such decision will force students of rural areas to leave their study mid-way." However, Secretary, BOSE, Renu Goswami told Early Times that the BOSE had asked Chief Education Officers of those districts which fall under summer zone to file their objections over change in language of SST. "But, we don't receive any reply. Since State Government had already asked us to introduce social studies in English language for ninth class, it had enforced since last year", she said. |
