Srinagar, Aug 31: Breaking his silence over the opposition of Kashmiri separatists to the Zubin Mehta concert to be held at Srinagar's Shalimar Bagh on September 7, Peoples Democratic Front Chairman and former minister, Hakim Muhammad Yasin today expressed his deep anguish on what he termed politicizing the show which is purely a cultural one and could promote the Kashmir Tourism. Talking to Early Times exclusively, Hakim Yasin said the government and the separatist leaders have unfortunately politicized the show and want to make an issue out of it which does not hold any merit. He said the concert is a musical one and many such events were held in the past and none of the events could change anything except promoting the tourism and culture. "Pakistani artists also performed in J&K several times in the past which helped in bridging the gaps between the divided people without but had no bearings on the political issues of the state" Hakim said and added that things should be seen in their right perspective and placed rightly. Hakim said the cultural exchanges do help in understanding the pluralistic character of the globe and provides an incite of the vast human civilizations across the world. Meanwhile criticizing the organizations like Pugwash for organizing conference on Kashmir which in no way help in resolving the issues confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "I have been all along opposing these conferences whether organized by private players or for matter by the government sponsored people because these have further complicated the issues rather than helping in resolving them" said Hakim. "We have had Interlocutors appointed by the Prime Minister in 2010, backchannel ac tors visiting off and on to Kashmir since last two decades, what happened then" Hakim asked. He said unless the two countries sit together at the highest level and demonstrate magnanimity in accommodating each others view-point, nothing would happen. Hakim said the organizers of these so called Kashmir conferences have their owen agenda which for all practical purposes is antithesis to the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have been bearing the brunt. |
