| VC-BGSBU, teaching faculty lock horns as deadlock continues | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri , Aug 31: The deadlock to end the ongoing strike at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) by teaching faculty continued as BGSBU Teachers Association (BGBUTA) has rejected the appeal of the VC BGSBU saying that the university authorities have badly failed to concede their main demands. A press statement stated that Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Prof I.A Hamal has appealed to the striking teachers to join class work as most of their demands have been conceded and policy matters are under consideration which may take some more time while Dr Ali Azger Shah, president BGSBU Teachers Association (BGBUTA) has outrightly rejected the appeal of the VC saying that the university authorities have badly failed to concede their main demands including adoption of rotational policy, removal of retired personnel on key administrative posts (against UGC norms of 60 years) implementation of UGC's norms. He further said that their indefinite strike will continue till at least 60 percent of their genuine demands are not implemented on ground. "We negotiated on these issues with the VC and withdrew our strike. But till the end of last academic session and at the beginning of new session no decision was taken by the university authorities which forced us to again adopt the path of agitation" said Dr Shah. He further added that on August, 20 they observed pen down strike to aware the VC about our demands but when nothing was done BGBUTA decided to go on indefinite strike. Meanwhile in his appeal to the teaching fraternity VC said, "University is a seat of higher learning which young men and women join to get enriched in knowledge and skills to face the real world. Teachers and supporting staff play pivotal role in shaping the life of these aspirants by preparing them for the rough and tumble of life." "To solve these, we worked hard. We achieved success at the financial front . Generous grant from the State Govt. and UGC plan funds have brought us out of financial stringency. This helped us to introduce 6th pay commission grades including arrears, undertake infrastructure development, and liquidate 7-8 crore debt" He added that the demands projected by the teachers are being discussed by a Committee with the representatives of the Teachers. At the same time BGSBU Non Teaching Association (BUNTA) also had held a meeting in the university campus today under the president ship of Zakir Malik (officiating president) and have appealed to the teachers to end their strike as the students are suffering a lot in the beginning of the new session. |
