| Not so melodious Jugalbandi continues over Padamshri to Mehmeet | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Sept 2: Interjections over prestigious Padam Shri to Kashmiri Singer Mehmeet Syed are hitting cords not so pleasing to the ears as many contemporaries have contested her selection for the top award. Mehmeet meanwhile maintains that though she did not approach anybody for this award, but quality in her work rather than quantity had won acclaimed Padam Shri for her. The issue which is gaining momentum with every passing day in Kashmir after some renowned and experienced singers expressed their anguish over the nomination of young Mehmeet Syed for prestigious award by some senior most politicians and officials of the state administration and threatened to take the serious note of decision of the government of India incase the said award would be given to her at any time in near future. Mehmeet syed a Masscom passout and singer by profession says that with due respect to the singers and artists who have forty to fifty years of experience in singing and art are making an issue out of nothing as the people who nominated her for the Padam Shri award last year may have done it keeping in view the name and fame she earned within no time which includes making an entry in bollywood which none among her critics have succeeded to do. While as many singers claim that she has just three albums to her credit and is yet to compose a single album of her own,Mehmeet while refuting the statement said that she has worked in more than 15 albums among which some albums both audio and video namely 'Mat mo rosh,Aye dil,Aye sanam,chol hama roshe roshe,chandhair zoon were appreciated not only in India but in some other countries of the world and she believes that for a prestigious award like Padam Shri one can contribute more in less time like she did and does not need forty to fifty years of experience in singing and art. Replying to the question of how she performed differently than other singers of the state, she said that it was because of inborn quality in her voice which she polished by working hard since her school days, Youth of Kashmir in particular, beside some migrant Kashmiries settled abroad started listening to the Kashmiri music which they felt has been sung and presented altogether differently than some experienced singers of the state usually do. "My statement that youth of Kashmir who as per her knowledge always say that Kashmiri music is worth listening in the voice of Mehmeet has been misquoted as I have never said that because of her singing youth of Kashmir shun the violence and started to listen to the music" said Mehmeet Syed. Supporting the claims of Mehmeet Syed about her manifold achievements in less time,the noted music director of the kashmir,Zafar Salti while talking to Early Times said that she is beyond any doubt different than many young singers presently working in the field and keeping in view the quality instead of quantity she deserves more than a Padam Shri award. While expressing his anguish over the recent controversy over the issue of Padam Shri nomination for Mehmeet syed, Zafar Salati said that heart touching and appealing quality in her voice and work is better than any other young artist of the kashmir he has seen so far during his whole career. |
