| Only two Cabinet meetings held in remote areas | | Omar fails on another front | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 2: One year has passed and Omar Abdullah seems in no mood to fulfil his promise of holding a Cabinet meeting in a remote area. During the past fifteen months only two meetings have been held in remote areas of the state. The original idea was conceived by Omar during last year in May. As per the original plan the state Cabinet was supposed to meet at any of the remote districts to speed up the developmental works in the area and to instil a feeling of discipline among the state Govt employees. According to official sources in the last 15 months only two such meetings one in Tangdhar and another in Gurez were organised where Chief Minister along with his Cabinet colleagues visited the remote area and interacted with the local officials during the review meeting. During the time durbar was in Jammu none of the Cabinet meeting took place across any of the remote districts of Jammu division. After the shifting of the durbar move offices this year in May 2013 not even a single meeting could take place even in Kashmir. In the absence of these meetings, as promised by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah people in far flung and remote areas of the state feel cheated and continue to wait for an opportunity to meet the Cabinet Ministers and apprise them about with hardships faced by them in absence of timely completion of developmental projects and lack of facilities. It may be mentioned here in May 2013 Omar had announced the decision by sharing on the micro blogging site "Once a month we will meet in a remote part of the state. Gurez, Machil and Keran", Omar had twitted on May 26,2012. Omar kept his promise and on May 30 after attending the meeting he once again shared his thoughts on the social networking site. "Had a very productive visit to Karnah. "Time will tell if we are able to deliver the results of such Cabinet meeting to the areas we visit". On the same day Omar had also announced schedule of his next meeting. "Next month a similar Cabinet meeting will be held in Gurez. Last Wednesday of every month the Cabinet will meet outside Srinagar/Jammu." For next three months Chief Minister Omar Abdullah could not chair even one meeting outside the summer capital in remote areas of the state either in Kashmir/Jammu division. After a long wait the second meeting took place in Gurez in the second week of September 2012. Now 12 months have passed again and the Chief Minister is yet to announce the schedule of his next meeting in far off remote district of the state. |
