| Traders reiterate demand of CBI probe, removal of DIG DKR | | VDCs guarantee of minorities' safety in Chenab valley: Gupta | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Sept 2: Former Union Minister of State for Defence and MLA Jammu west, Chaman Lal Gupta today said that existence of Village Defence Committees in Chenab valley of Jammu province is the guarantee for safeguarding of minorities. While addressing the gathering of prominent citizens and traders at Tourist Reception Centre Kishtwar, Mr. Gupta said that after witnessing mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Valley, the prime concern before the Vajpayee led NDA Government was to prevent similar exodus from other parts of the state including from Chenab valley. He said that as a security measure, the then NDA Government decided to strengthen the already existed VDCs and increased their numbers. He said that even though the militancy is at its lowest ebb in Chenab valley, but added that efforts are on from across the border to revive it once again. He said that under continuous threat from across the border, the continuation of VDCs in the area is important for safeguarding the future of minorities. Meanwhile traders of Kishtwar who called on Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta and other MLAs struck to their demand of CBI probe and removal of Ashkoor Ahmed Wani from the post of DIG DKR range. The traders said that they had no faith in any inquiry announced by the state Government including the judicial probe. They accused that the Government was shielding the police officers responsible for Kishtwar violence. Later Gupta also visited the house of deceased Arvind Raj Bhagat and expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family. |
