| It’s civil war at former DyCM's home over Bani ticket | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 2: Political aspirations have known to trigger bitter rivalries all across the country especially when it came to the issue of getting mandate to contest elections, but a tussle has started within the family of former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram on contesting election from the Bani constituency. Mangat Ram's sons Mian and Subash are fighting between themselves to get the party ticket from Bani constituency. Mian had even put up huge hoarding when party incharge Ambika Soni along with Ghulam Nabi Azad had arrived in Jammu on Saturday. Subash is already camping in Bani and has been telling his supporters that he is sure to get party ticket and has been holding meeting there. Mian is also making regular tours there and is also lobbying with the party leaders to get party mandate from there. Interestingly both are banking on the influence of Mangat Ram to ensure them party ticket. Both claim to have support of their father and both are using the name of Mangat Ram to influence senior party leadership and also induce voters. This strange position has left the party leadership in a quandary as it may not be able to make up its mind in allocating ticket to either of the sons of Mangat Ram. "Mangat Ram is a very senior leader. But the way his sons are behaving is not going to help the party and it may affect the possible chances of Mangat Ram," said a senior Cong leader, requesting anonymity. Bani was carved out of the Basohli constituency in 1996. Mangat Ram Sharma had earlier contested three elections from 1972 onwards. He has build his reputation there and is household name there and its for this reason that he got elected for three terms there. Mangat Ram family has putting up in Bani for quite some time. His sons are now feeling that with BJP in doldrums they have chance to secure the seat but their infighing could cost them dearely. "In the past also Mangat Ram's son has affected his reputation when he was Deputy Chief Minister. Now again they are at it again and infighting now for ticket could have an impact political career of Mangat Ram who could still emerge as a under-dog," said senior Cong leader. |
