Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 2: Already facing public ire for negligence in dealing with situation that led to bitter communal clashed in Kishtwar, DIG DKR Ashkoor Wani and his subordinate DySP HQ Ramban have been accused of beating a young girl.
The allegation was leveled by one Younis Khan of Udhampur who said that his daughter was beaten to pulp by the police officers for no fault.
The girl Rehana (name changed) daughter of Younis Khan of district Udhampur was allegedly dragged out from the residence of one of her relatives in Kashmir where she had gone to attend a court hearing.
The father of the girl alleged that her daughter was framed by one Harish Dev of Udhampur, a Congress leader, on the pretext of providing job in Social Welfare department as Anganwadi worker. "She was given some legal documents by the youth and asked her to sign on it if she intended to work as Anganwadi worker", Khan said alleging that the youth produced the same documents in the district court Udhampur claiming his daughter as his legal wife. However, the proceeding was withheld on the direction of High Court Srinagar where she appealed against his nefarious design. While the proceeding was in progress in Kashmir, the so called Congress leader along with two other youth attempted to kidnap her daughter ,however, the same was foiled by Ramsu police men who during naka checking intercepted the car and arrested the kidnappers. A case against the incident was also lodged in police station. Later when DIG DKR realized that one of the accused was a Congress leader, he started pressurizing the girl to take her case back. The girl lodged the complaint against the incident in Kashmir High Court and accordingly court took the proceeding under its jurisdiction.
Fuming over the incident, the so called Congress leader, filed case in High Court Jammu against him alleging that the girl's father did not allow the girl to go with him as he was her legal husband.
On Sunday, when he along with his daughter was in Kashmir to attend the court hearing on Tuesday, some policemen from Ramban police headed by DySP HQ Ramban Mukhtiyar on DIG's direction dragged her from her hair out of the house and took her to Ramsu police station where she was beaten mercilessly. The girl was later dispatched to women cell, Jammu to attend the court hearing. He further said that he had medical report that suggested that the girl was beaten up mercilessly and would take up the matter to the court, Human Right Commission and Government as well to get justice.
