Et Report

SRINAGAR, Sept 2: Peoples Conference (PC) is all set to fight the 2014 Assembly and Parliamentary elections in the State and Party has started its campaign in various parts of the Valley even much earlier than announcement of election dates. To give a tough fight to ruling alliance in the next year's Assembly and Parliamentary elections the PC senior leaders have set themselves in motion in strengthening the Party at grass root level and refurbish its public image as a secular and social democratic Party which believes in unity of all three regions of the State and their equal development.
According to sources the PC has made it a prestigious point to evolve itself as a Party to reckon with in the next Assembly elections and take the policies and programmes of its founder president Abdul Gani Lone to every nook and corner of the State by launching a tirade against the dynastic rule of those political parties who ruled the State since 1947 in one form or the other and were the cause of prevailing mess and miseries of the people of J&K. Sources said the chairman of the Party, Sajjad Gani Lone besides concentrating on three north Kahsmir districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora has also concentrated on Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir where from the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting the Assembly elections and which has been a traditional seat of NC stalwarts right from 1950 elections.
To challenge Abdullah in his home pitch the PC has roped in a veteran Trade unionist from the area Mir Ghulam Rasool Batwani who happens to be a well known socialist and a secular leader of the Valley. Mir who joined the party early last year has been appointed as its convener for the Ganderbal district and authorized to take all decisions in rejuvenating and strengthening the Party at grass root level to give a formidable challenge to the ruling NC.
Soon after taking over as the convener of the Party's district unit Mir organized public meetings in every village especially in tehsils of Ganderbal, Lar and Kangan and apprised the people of the policies and programmes of his Party which favours the solution of Kashmir crisis without bloodshed.
He while addressing these meetings asks people to differentiate between foe and friend as the Party they trusted more since 1947 betrayed them and exploited them for their own interests and promotion of dynastic rule. Sources said Mir who is known for his socialist and secular ideology does not hesitate in holding the traditional ruling class of Kashmir for mass exodus of the minorities from Valley and terms it a great setback to age old secular and social ethos of Kashmir where the two communities lived in complete harmony and peace with each other.
He does not hesitate in accusing the ruling class for recent communal clashes in Kishtwar district of Jammu region for their vote bank politics to remain in power for coming years. Mir asks people to understand this game plan and not be mislead by their propaganda.
He asks people instead of being misled by the vested interests and creating a division in the society
On the name religion, religion and language they should fight against hunger, poverty, right to equality, creation of employment avenues for youth and all round development of the state as well as strengthening of democratic institutions.
Mir also does not hesitate in demanding a probe in the property amassed by the leaders who ruled the State since 1947. Sources said gaining popularity of the PC leader has become a cause of concern for ruling NC as well as opposition PDP. Mir who during his entire life as a State Government worked as a senior leader of Low Paid Government Employees Federation and relinquished the post on his superannuation as its State general secretary to set an example in the Trade union history that after retirement no leader has a right to remain as the office bearer of the employees organization.
Recently Mir organized public meetings at Ganderbal and Kangan tehsil headquarters and at Kangan another senior trade unionist Ghulam Mohammad Raina joined the Party and announced to work for the betterment of the people of the State to expose those politicians who have been responsible for the present mess.
Mir in these public meetings gave a clarion call to all the former trade unionists of the State to join the Party and launch a protracted struggle for the rights of the people by adhering to the policies and progmmes of secularism and socialism which were dare to Late Abdul Gani Lone and for whose realization the party chairman Sajjad Gani Lone has taken an onus to himself.
The PC leaders including its general secretary, Rashid Mehmood, Davood Bilal Lodhi son of former MLC Bilal Lodhi, M S Bhat and Shiekh Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shilvati attended these meetings and highlighted the policies and programmes of the Party.
