early times report Kathua, Sept 2: A plantation drive was organized to mark 64th Van Mahotasava at Govt Degree College (GDC) Kathua by Forest Division, Kathua in collaboration with NSS unit of host college here today. About 300 saplings of different species were planted in the college premises. Jitender Kumar Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua was the chief guest on the occasion who declared the occasion started by plating a sapling. Chief guest Jitender Kumar Singh appreciated the Forest Department and NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets of Govt Degree College, Kathua for organizing the plantation drive to mark 64th Van Mahotsava. He also impressed upon the forest officials to continue this type of drives in future also. "Every person should plant one plant," he said Dr Nater Singh, Principal, Govt Degree College, Kathua and Q D Khawja, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua as special invitees were present on the occasion. Q D Khawja, DFO, Kathua presented the welcome address and appreciated the role of NSS volunteers and NCC Cadets for taking interest in the plantation drive to participate in afforestation drive. Deepika Bhagat, NSS volunteer of college highlighted the need of environmental conservation in the present scenario. The proceedings of function were conducted by Prof Sumnesh Jasrotia. Sanjay Gupta, DFO Social Forestry, Kathua, Abhijeet Joshi, ACF, B D Thakur, ACF and other official were present in function while NSS Programme officers Prof Raj Kiran, Dr Suram Singh and Dr Ram Singh, Prof Jasvinder Singh, Prof Sandeep Choudhary and Dr Anupama Arora were present in the function.
