Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 6: Why is there no check on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's foreign visits? Omar who go out of the country very often raises a serious question. Who is paying for the visits?. Every year, the Chief Minister travels abroad three to four times and all his expenses are paid from state exchequer which the cash starved state cannot afford. Be it salaries of Government employees, developmental works, relief funds or any other issue, the Jammu and Kashmir Government turns towards New Delhi for the help but when it comes to bringing austerity measures, the Chief Minister doesn't come forward. He even increases his expenses and travels everywhere including New Delhi, abroad and tourist places on tax payers money. Recently Omar Abdullah was out of India when the state was not yet come out of the Gool massacre and Kishtwar communal clashes. Without bothering about issues pertaining to people of the state, this young Chief Minister enjoys royal treatment on tax payers' money outside India. Omar he has made it a point to go abroad during Christmas and when darbar moves between summer and winter capitals twice in a year. It is a well known fact that rupee is on continuous slide against the US dollar and visiting abroad is not affordable for a Chief Minister of a poor state like Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah must take a cue from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who hardly moves out of India and remains in his state. His state is considered as one of the most prosperous states in India and is on the path of development. Despite having so much troubles in the state, the development of MP didn't stop. But Omar doesn't think on these lines and puts his personal interests above state and people and travels abroad and other states on regular intervals on tax payers' money. |
