| Zubin Mehta, Abay Sopori steal the show | | Music reduces the distances between the people-German Ambassador | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, Sept 7: A complete fusion of Kashmiri music and German classical music reverberated the Shalimar Garden on the banks of the Dal lake this evening when the Bavarian State Orchestra and renowned Kashmiri maestro Abhay Sopori's soz-e-saaz presented a unique composition of Kashmiri folk music which was acclaimed by the audience comprising eminent personalities from across the world. Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of the Zubin Mehta show, the German Ambassador , Michael, Steiner said " The distance between Munich and Srinagar is 7076 Km, we have reduced that distance to zero through music" Apparently referring to the allegations of separatist of not allowing the common Kashmiris to participate in the concert, Steiner said, "everyone from Kashmir who wanted to be here this evening was here. 2,700 people from Kashmir and all across the world attended the concert" On the beautiful composition of Bavarian Orchistyra and Kashmiri Soz-o-Saaz, Steiner said that Kashmiris can be proud about the music they have heard here. "Have you seen how these kashmiri musicians have impressed the Bavarian State orchestra. I think every kashmiri must be proud" said Steiner adding that 'tonight we are all Kashmiris. To a question Steiner said the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union want to help the people of Kashmir. "People here need hospitals, health care, education, we have tried to invite the attention of the outer world to the problems of Kashmiri people" said Stiener adding that though it was not solution to the bigger problems, however, by organizing this concert, the Federal Republic of Germany wants to help the people of Kashmir. Hero of the day, the German maestro of Indian origin, Zubin Mehta said that it was his dream to perform in Kashmir and the dream has come true. He hoped harmony amongst the musicians inpire the people of Kashmir. Senior BJP leader and former Foreign Minister, Jaswant Singh who also attended the show said that it was a grand show. |
