| Oath ceremony of Kargil House deferred, matter pushed into CC court | | War of nerves continues between NC, Congress | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 7: Even as the oath ceremony has been deferred for the newly elected members of Kargil Hill Development Autonomous Council, tension continues to drift apart the two ruling coalition government allies National Conference and Congress over the nomination of four members by the former unilaterally . Following pressure from the Congress over what it sees as an undemocratic and unhealthy political move of its partner, the matter has now been pushed into the court of Coordination Committee. The Committee having senior members on board from both the parties will sit in a couple of days to settle the matter 'amicably'. Sources said consequent upon Congress having taken a tough posture over NC's unilateral decision of nominating all the four members for the House in a hurriedly manner, the NC has budged a bit , albeit only to the extent of agreeing to deferring the oath ceremony which was scheduled for today, September 7. Sources said Congress has conveyed its utter displeasure over the manner NC has tried to scuttle prospects of Congress forming the Council which requires only 15 members. Having emerged as the single largest party with 12 elected members, Congress had already taken 3 independent members into its fold for the requisite strength of 15 in the 26 members elected House. However, in a move which Congress abundantly looks as aimed to scuttle the prospects, NC hurriedly nominated 4 members on its own. Pertinently, NC has been able to have only 8 elected members this time contrary to majority it had during the last polls. "NC did it in utmost undemocratic manner……it is never in the history of elections that any party hurries into action of nominating members much before the oath ceremony of elected members takes place and the House is formally set into order…", said a senior Congress minister. We don't understand what was the urgency of doing so…..other than scuttling the Congress move, he added. Sources also confirmed that in order to have the requisite strength of 15, NC having only 8 elected and 4 nominated, NC is trying to woo 3 independent members which have already opted to go with Congress, allegedly by offering huge amounts of money. Sources said it is this gesture of NC which has angered the Congress most, move which is utterly against the coalition spirit. |
