Kathua, Sept 15: Due to the strike of Safai Karamcharis roads and most of the areas in Kathua are littered by garbage. The Safai Karamcharis are on strike in favour of their long pending demands. The residents of Kathua on Sunday came in support of Safai Karamcharis and termed their agitation genuine and justified. They urged the state government to address their demands. Sarv Dharam Seva Samiti's President Robin Sharma also supported the ongoing strike of the Safai-Karamcharis and alleged that the state government and Director Local Bodies were unnecessarily harassing them by ignoring their demands. The Safai-Karamcharis are demanding regularization of daily-wagers, timely release of salaries. Sanjeev Verma, a social worker said that the demands of the Safai Karamchari are genuine and justified. "They play fundamental and basic role to keep the city neat and clean at a meagre amount in the form of monthly salary," he said. "The state government should be attentive and sensitive towards the demands of these economically poor employees and they should be given their rights."Advocate Pankaj Gupta said the residents are forced to dump garbage into the drains or in an open in their respective areas. He complained there is no garbage collection in the area, so they are left with no option but to dispose of their waste in the large drain that flows through there. Pankaj Dogra expressed concern over the accumulation of huge rotting garbage which had created unhygienic conditions in the area. He urged the state government to come forth with an effective and result-oriented initiative to address the long pending demands of the Safai Karamcharis. |
