Jammu, Sept 15: The department of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu has been reduced into a PR agency of its director, who has been violating all conventions and norms of propriety to enhance his personal contacts and associations.
Invitation to IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar at the finals of the inter college Badminton championship and presentation ceremony on the occasion was a cheap effort by the director Dhian Singh Bhau to further his PR, as insiders disclose that there is no convention of presenting the trophy to the winners and the runners up of any inter college event at the venue. "For all these years, the trophies have been presented by the Chancellor after the closing of university's annual athletic meet," said a member of the staff, adding that Director has reduced the inter college events into his PR exercises.
Insiders also revealed that last year also, the director invited first lady, Lida Singh on the campus to the lackluster finals of inter college women hockey championship and after listless and tiring finals, a mock presentation ceremony was organized wherein the winners and runners up were given trophies just to appease the first lady and the Vice Chancellor who had taken over a few week ago. "The same trophies were later retracted and presented again on the final day of the annual athletic meet by the Chancellor," disclosed an employee of the department pleading anonymity. "In the past also he has been inviting senior officers of police and civil administration to the departmental functions just to promote and project himself, but many a times, these officers have either refused the invitation, or embarrassed the University by sending their staff officers at their places," he added.
Sources also disclose that Dhian Singh has managed to cling on to the chair of Director Sports and Physical Education for over four years despite several representations even to the Vice Chancellor against him. "He has been flaunting his proximity to the VC for his continuation as director Sports of the university. He says that the Vice chancellor was his college buddy and he could be shifted only when he himself desired," divulged a source adding that while entire university administration has been reshuffled several times during the last four years, how he has managed to stay on as director sports and physical education despite his non sports background. The question puts a serious question mark on the fairness and probity of top university administration. |
