Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 15: Whatever achievements were made by previous NDA Government at Centre and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led coalition in the State for restoration of peace in trouble torn Kashmir Valley were nullified by UPA Government at Centre and National Conference (NC) led coalition in the State.
According to sources the situation in Kashmir has deteriorated again and it is like that of 1989-90 which saw killings of hundreds of innocent people followed by mass exodus of minorities and other nationalist people from Valley to Jammu and other parts of the country.
Sources said fear psychosis prevailed every where in Valley and ground situation which was better during PDP rule in the Valley has again deteriorated with separatists and anti nationalist elements ruling the roost. This has been mainly due to the worn policies and follies of both UPA Government at the Centre and NC led coalition in the State, sources added.
Sources said taking full advantage of the lapses and infighting of NC and Congress which are the coalition partners on vital issues the separatists and the militants have managed in reactivating themselves, inducing the youth to join militancy for the so called jehad again. The failure of the Government to redress the problems of common man in general and youth in particular has taken him closer to anti social elements and this is proving dangerous for the peace and prosperity of the Kashmir, sources added.
Sources said the much hyped Sher-i-Kashmir employment and Udan schemes have proved to be non starters and the people have become totally disillusioned with the Government as the increasing unemployment coupled with rising corruption is eating up the vitals of the society. This has led to the desperation of the youth and they fall a prey in the hands of anti national elements and separatists who lure them to join the militant ranks, sources added.
Sources said till GoI does not make a drastic change in its Kashmir policy and instead of depending on one family and ignoring the majority of opinion in Kashmir situation can't improve. The GoI instead of depending on a particular section of politicians, should have taken the main stream politicians, trade unions and other opinion makers in Kashmir into confidence to find a solution to the problem within the frame work of Indian Constitution, sources added.
Sources said the lack of decision on part of GoI in this regard has led to deteriorating situation in Valley resulting in daily hartals, bandhs , killings and clamping of curfew. Even the minorities in the Valley have also become again target of anti social elements following the deteriorating situation in Valley, sources added.
Sources said following the deteriorating situation and attacks on minority Sikhs in South Kashmir as well as some migrant camps the minorities again feel scared and seek protection from Government. Some Sikh organizations have made an appeal to both Union as well as State Government to ensure the security of minority Sikhs in Valley following the recent attacks on them in South Kashmir. They have also made an appeal to separatist Hurriyat factions and other political organizations that mean in Valley to ensure that the religious places of Sikhs are protected and the minorities are not harmed in Kashmir as it will be a great drawback to the spirit of Kashmiriyat that has been nurtured by its people for centuries together.
