Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 15: As the autumn has already set in and winter is round the corner, the government has gone mum on clearing the dues of small scale industries who repair transformers of power development department.
Since the beginning of summer, the PDD has been sending its transformers to these small scale industries for repair but during the month of June, when the rush of transformers increased in workshops of these industries, officials of these units asked to pay the dues but the government didn't pay heed to their requests.
Now when autumn has already set in, the government is not interested in paying to these industrial units for their work. Lakhs of outstanding is still pending with the government but there is hope of money being given to the industries.
When the rush of repairing work at in house workshops of power development department increases, these industries repair the power transformers but due to non-clearance of liability by government the
association has decided to stop the repairing work till their dues are cleared.
"We have received a meager amount of Rs 20 lakh only against the liability of more than 10 crores for the repair of the transformers and this amount has accumulated over last few years," alleged an official of small scale industries.
The government is not concerned about these people but when winter will be in full bloom and transformers will be damaged again, government will head towards these units to repair. "We will be given some peanuts at that time and will be asked to repair again," the official said.
These small scale industries have exhausted all funds and they have no further capacity to undertake repair activity. "We are forced to stop the repair of transformers till payment is released," he added.
Accusing the government of adopting double standard, he said that government has released Rs 175 lakh in favour of EM and RE Wing of Kashmir and only Rs. 20 lakh for EM and RE Wing of Jammu for the repair of the damaged transformers for which develop technical snag. "We from time to time clear their dues and recently some liability was cleared. In future when funds will be released liability will again be cleared," a PDD official said.
Replying to the allegations leveled by SSI on releasing more money to EM and RE Wing of Kashmir and less to EM and RE Wing of Jammu, he said that the liability of Kashmir was more and the government has released money equally on percentage basis.
