Early Times Report
HAJIN, Sept 16: The cavalcade of Minister for Higher Education came under attack when scores of youth from Markundal area of North Kashmir's Sumbal Sonawari resorted to heavy stone pelting. This was the fourth attack on the Minister, Muhammad Akbar Lone since the past one month. "Let them resort to attacks. Time will decide who would bag the Sonawari Assembly seat," Lone said.
Eyewitnesses said that Minister for Higher Education Muhammad Akbar Lone was on a visit to Markundal area when scores of youth pelted stones on him, forcing him to leave the place without attending workers' meet.
Reports said that the cavalcade of the Minister was attacked from all the sides. "Youth pelted stones on the Minister from shops, roof tops, lanes and by-lanes. Lone was forced to leave the place under police cover," reports added.
"He (Lone) never visited Markundal when two youth were allegedly killed by Army here. Further, Markundal and Hajin witnessed no development during his tenure as Speaker and Cabinet Minister. He paid all his attention towards Sumbal," one of the residents of Markundal said.
Reports said that youth cordoned the cavalcade of the Minister from all sides and resorted to heavy stone-pelting. Police swung into action to guard the minister.
When contacted, Muhammad Akbar Lone said that some vested interests were attacking me again and again. "Let them pelt stones on me. Time will decide who would be victorious in coming Assembly elections," Lone said.
Sub Divisional Police Officer, Irshad Ahmed termed the reports baseless and said that no stone-pelting incident was reported from the area
