| Fate of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines Bill uncertain | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 16: With some politicians and Legislators expressing their reservations on Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill lying with Select Committee at present, its fate seems uncertain. According to highly placed sources the chances for the passage of the Bill during the Autumn Session at Srinagar have become remote as the coalition members lack unanimity on the issue. While the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is on record to say in the recently held Apex Committee meeting at Srinagar in Kashmir valley that his Party was willing to facilitate passage of Shrines and Temples Bill provided the Congress extends support to it in the Assembly. Not only this, Abdullah has also stated that he will take up the issue with UPA chairperson and AICC chief, Sonia Gandhi asking her to issue directives to her Party Legislators to support the passage of the Bill in the House. However the feelings given by Congress leaders earlier including the Party Stat president and former Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and Minister of Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla that the Congress too was keen to have the legislation. The two leaders discussed its pros and cons with a delegation of the Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust which is spearheading the present movement for passage of the Shrines and Temples Bill early this Summer in this regard. The two leaders have assured the Trust delegation that the Congress was in favour of passage of the Bill and it will take all steps in this regard. Even the duo went up to the extent and said that their Party favours that all Hindu shrines of Kashmir which even are managed by some boards and trusts be also brought under the purview of the Bill. However sources said following the pressure exerted on the Congress High Command by certain politicians who too head some trusts managing the Hindu shrines in Kashmir the Congress party seems to have changed its stance now and it making its role totally ambiguous on the passage of the Bill. Sources said this double standard by the Party has generated a resentment among the Kashmiri Pandits all over the globe who are pressing hard for the enactment of law for the management of Hindu Shrines in Kashmir whose land has been grabbed by the mafia and among them many are in dilapidated condition after they were damaged during the turmoil. Sources said some Legislators have also expressed their reservations over the passage of the Bill and raised certain objections and amendments in the Bill. They also favour that the Trusts like J&K Dharmarth Trust and Akahara which also manages some shrines and temples in Valley be not brought under the purview of the Bill. This has given a rise to controversy which will create hurdles in the passage of the Bill during the coming Autumn session of State Legislature beginning at Summer Capital form September 30, sources. |
