Shopian killings aftermath

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 16: Advisor to former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Additional Advocate General Monday castigated the Congress Minister and CRPF for misleading the people over Shopian killings.
Advocate Manzoor Ahmed told that a Congress Minister before the completion of the probe into the killings has claimed that one of the youth was a militant. "His statement is aimed to hamper and sabotage the ongoing probe that is taking place into the gruesome incident," he said.
When Director General of Police is on record to have said that he is in touch with his Bihar counterpart to ascertain and establish the identity of the fourth youth killed in CRPF firing at Gagrin, then how come one of the Congress Minister knows that the said youth was a militant.
He said that even the police is not sure about the unidentified youth being a militant. "Now that an enquiry into the whole incident has been ordered by the Government and the Deputy Commissioner Shopian is to go into the whole circumstances that led to the killing of these four youth and another subsequently at Gagrin, therefore, it is simply not proper and appropriate for anybody in the Government to make statements aimed at influencing or sabotaging the enquiry so ordered by the Government," he said.
"Saif-ud-Din Soz as Congress president has already made a demand for an impartial enquiry into the incident and how can one of the Congress Ministers pass judgment before the completion of the probe," he said.
Castigating CRPF for indulging in such gruesome act, Advocate Manzoor Ahmed said that the version put forth by the CRPF that one of the youth was carrying a pistol is totally against the commonsense and reason. "How can a person plan an attack on a full-fledged CRPF camp with a pistol. Assuming for arguments sake without conceding that the youth was carrying a pistol, did this thing give, justification to the CRPF to gun down all the four persons, if at all the youth was carrying a pistol and he was out of his senses to carry it near a CRPF camp, the said youth could have been neutralized by shooting at his arm or leg," he said.
He said that, "I hope and trust that the Chief Minister is having the necessary political understanding and administrative acumen as to not allow anybody in the Government to dilute the fairness of the inquiry ordered by the Government."
