| Omar's 'sermon' to youth on joining politics hollow | | Politics most alluring fields for easy money, speedy 'growth'…..! | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was seen today in a preacher mode- delivering sermons to youngsters and advising them not to get allured to politics at an early age, in fact not jumping into this fray and field before completion of their studies. In a bid to clear self contradiction on this sermon, Omar contended that some politicians may have the political aim of obtaining power but his politics revolves round the 'public service'. This however is sure to fall flat. So far so good. There is no harm in taking good advise for any fraternity from any quarter. But this one sounds ironical in many ways. First, Omar himself joined the bandawagon of politics and took over the onus of party (rather inherited it as next generation of Abdullah clan) at a very young age. Perhaps only after joining as apprentice in the Hotel Management studies. What and why this field allured him at such a young age needs some explaining by Omar to youth, students whom he advised otherwise today. What if the students put a counter question on this sermon as to why would they wait and miss the opportunities offered in the middle of their student career. After all one studies to get a get a good degree that earns one a good job with handsome earnings too. But given the scenario today , it is more than clear to youth and students that no matter heavy degrees and specialization in various courses, there is no alluring a profession than the field of politics itself which ensures speedy prosperity and growth overnight in so far as earning money is concerned. Politics in today's scenario is also synonymous with power, influence and muscle power. If it takes a student to climb a ladder of success in any organization even with merit record years and years, it just takes 3- 4 years to reach that pinnacle in the field of politics. Even in the foray of business there is not such phenomenal growth and speedy success as seen in politics. Today's youth who are into business know that in order to be among the leaders in the business community it needs immense hardwork and money too to be in that frame of success and glory, not to speak of middle rung careers in either jobs or business where youth virtually wriggle by inches to reach some height. In other words, youth today have reason to idolize the politicians and get attracted to politics first than any other field. Same is true for Bureaucracy which youth look upon as an alluring profession. All they have to do to get through the civil services exams and enjoy rest of their life. Babus are no more a respectful fraternity instead one which enjoy power, wield influence and mint money as well. |
